Paris Period
Troup’s work naturally aligns with the so‑called Second Paris School (Nouvelle École de Paris), which was a group of mostly non‑figurative painters active in Paris after the Second World War.
The Second Paris School was not a formal movement but rather a loose circle of artists who shared an interest in abstraction, lyricism, and spontaneous expression.
Troup differed from these artists in that he maintained a strong connection to figuration and narrative content; however, his poetic style, emphasis on colour, and spiritual themes link him closely to them. Like these artists, he sought a balance between spontaneous gesture and controlled composition—between tradition and modern expression—an area in which he demonstrated true mastery.
